HYPE: Introducing The Mighty Nein Origins, Our New Graphic Novel Series with Dark Horse Comics!

Written by on November 10, 2020

Welcome to the Mighty Nein!

We are ever so excited to announce our new line of hardcover graphic novels – The Mighty Nein Origins – in collaboration with our friends at Dark Horse Comics! Each volume explores an adventurer’s backstory who will one day become part of the Mighty Nein.

Releasing on June 16, 2021, the very first volume of The Mighty Nein Origins focuses on our cleric of chaos, Jester Lavorre! Let’s take a peek at what The Mighty Nein Origins: Jester Lavorre is all about.

Jester Lavorre had an unconventional upbringing, even for one born in cosmopolitan Nicodranas. Daughter of the famed Ruby of the Sea, she had many opportunities for mischief as a small child, of which she took full advantage! Dive into the mystery of Jester’s early years, her first meeting with the Traveler, and the fateful events that set her on a path to eventually join the Mighty Nein.

The Mighty Nein Origins: Jester Lavorre is written by Sam Maggs (Captain Marvel, The Unstoppable Wasp) with line art by Hunter Severn Bonyun, colors by Cathy Le, and developed with direction by our very own partners in chaos Laura Bailey and Matthew Mercer.

The second graphic novel of The Mighty Nein Origins will release a month later on July 14, 2021 and focuses on the flame-wielding wizard currently known as Caleb Widogast.

In The Mighty Nein Origins: Caleb Widogast, Bren Aldric Ermendrud is chosen to attend the exclusive Soltryce Academy, preparing for an important future in service to the Empire. But nobody––least of all Bren himself––can foresee the cruelty he will endure, and the ways in which it will break and remake him. Witness the events that transform Bren into the Mighty Nein’s Caleb Widogast, and how they inform the path he’ll take in the future.

The Mighty Nein Origins: Caleb Widogast is written by Jody Houser (who you may recognize from Vox Machina Origins as well as such titles as Stranger Things and StarCraft: Survivors) with line art by Selina Espiritu, colors Diana Sousa, and direction by our very own stinky wizards Liam O’Brien and Matthew Mercer.

You can pre-order both of the physical versions these volumes RIGHT NOW at your favorite local book and comic stores, or through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and TFAW. Digital versions are available for pre-order through Dark Horse Digital, ComiXology, and Barnes & Noble, with more digital options coming soon.

We are so, so excited to continue telling stories with Dark Horse, and ever so grateful to you Critters for your support that allows us to explore storytelling in these different mediums.
